Easy ways to save on every holiday this year

15 Feb 2022
5 min read

Dreaming of kicking back on a far flung beach, cocktail in one hand and the latest thriller in the other? Or maybe covid’s meant you’ve forgotten what snow looks like so you’ve got your heart set on the slopes? However you’re holidaying in 2022, don’t spend more than necessary. Here are our top ways to save without scrimping on your sweet escape.

Get cashback before you even take off ✈️

So you’ve found the perfect hotel room (read: a sea view and more Nespresso pods than you can shake a stick at). Before you book it, check your rewards on Curve for cashback offers from big-name travel brands, like Booking.com and Easyjet.

Just think, you can put the money you pocket towards that unplanned yet inevitable mini bar binge.

Sneak a cheap deal

Sign up to Jack’s Flight Club to be notified when there’s a really cheap deal on flights. Whether an airline’s running a seasonal sale or they’ve made a pricing error (it happens more than they’d like to admit 😬), you’ll be the first to know.

If you’d rather put your feet up and let someone - or something - else do the hard work, download the LuckyTrip app. Choose your budget, hit the ‘lucky’ button and they’ll bring you a whole host of flight and hotel deals. £216 for a long weekend in Greece, anyone?

Take out cash abroad for free

Hitting the ATM on holiday could cost you a pretty penny, especially if you use a credit card. Many high street banks will charge you a 2.99% non-sterling transaction fee. That means if you’re taking out £500, you’ll have to pay your bank £15.

With Curve, you can take out up to £200 a month abroad, completely free. Or upgrade to Curve Metal to withdraw up to £600 a month for free. We’ll also throw in free phone insurance, travel insurance and car collision waiver insurance.

Hostel is the new hotel

If the thought of sharing a room with a bunch of harem pant-wearing teens on their gap year makes you want to catch the first flight home, we’ve got news for you: it doesn’t have to be like that.

Lots of hostels offer private rooms - you won’t even have to share a bathroom. It’ll cost a fraction of the price of a hotel room, so if you’re willing to sacrifice the little luxuries like room service, it could be a good option. You’ll get a balcony and your very own hostel entrance with a private room at The Beehive in Rome, or the Fauzi Azar hostel in Israel comes with free breakfast and cake 🤩

Fair foreign exchange fees 🔁

That’s right, no more getting ripped off with hefty fees when you buy currency in a hurry at the airport. Unless you’re playing it safe with a staycation, you’ll probably have to think about the exchange rate at your destination. Get this: with Curve you’ll enjoy fair exchange rates on any card you add in the app.

Swap your home with a stranger

If Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz can do it, why can’t you?* Love Home Swap lets you ‘swap’ your home for free in over 100 countries, from ski chalets to rural retreats. It’s cheaper than booking a hotel or villa and you’ll have all the things you need that you might not find in a regular AirBnB.

*Jude Law not included.

Make a list, check it twice 📋

Forgetful types, this one’s for you. Before you start packing, make a list of everything you’ll need on holiday. Everything from underwear to phone chargers to toiletries. There’s nothing worse than realising you’ve forgotten your plug adapter and having to shell out £20 for a bright pink one that doubles as a bottle opener at the airport 🥴

And don’t forget to pack a water bottle or keep cup - it’ll stop you from wasting money on bottled drinks when you’re out and about.
