Add your Visa credit card to Curve to keep shopping at Amazon

Update: Amazon has put the breaks on its Visa credit card ban until the two can reach an agreement. Confused about all these changes? Get Curve to continue shopping on Amazon using your Visa credit card, no matter what happens.

If you’re not up to speed, the online retail giant announced they will no longer be accepting Visa credit cards in the UK from 19 January 2022, due to high transaction fees.

While you can still use your Visa debit card (or other credit card providers) at the checkout, this won’t be that helpful for a lot of people. Particularly if you use your credit card to collect points and rewards or spread the cost of your spending.

Hack the system with Curve

Before you pick up the phone ready to give Amazon an earful, we’ve got the solution. Visa credit cards (like Barclays, HSBC and Citibank) will continue to work with Amazon if they’re connected to Curve.

And don’t panic, Samsung Pay+ powered by Curve will continue to work with Amazon so you can still check out using a Visa credit card.

Curve combines all your debit, credit and loyalty cards in one. So it’s the only card you need to carry (and the only PIN you need to remember). We’re not a bank, so we don’t hold your money like traditional bank cards. Instead, you connect your bank cards to Curve to earn cashback as you spend. More importantly, Curve is a Mastercard debit card, so you can use it anywhere that accepts Mastercard - including Amazon.

And a similar level of protection to your credit card

With Curve, you’ll be protected for purchases up to £100k. It’s a similar level of protection as Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, which is what many high street banks offer. So if your order is faulty, damaged or doesn’t show up, you’ll get a refund if you’re eligible.* You’ll also be covered by Mastercard® chargeback rights.

Shachar Bialick, Founder and CEO of Curve, says:

“Amazon’s decision to stop accepting payments using UK-issued Visa credit cards will harm a huge number of customers. Consumers without a financial super-app are losing choice and flexibility when it comes to their finances.

Curve is the only solution in the UK that can offset this decision by Amazon. Users will still be able to use their Visa credit card via Curve to shop at Amazon while continuing to earn their bank’s rewards.”

New to Curve?

Download the app now to make sure you’re prepared for January (and take advantage of cashback offers while Christmas shopping). It’s easy:

  1. Pick your card (with Curve Metal, you get unlimited cashback from global brands including Amazon)

  2. Add your cards to the Curve app (yep, that means your Visa credit card)

  3. Choose the card you want to pay with in the app

That’s it - problem solved. Amazon might be restricting customer choice, but we’re protecting it. Just don’t forget to add your Curve card as the default payment method on Amazon for an even speedier checkout experience.

*Curve Customer Protection isn’t a product warranty or a service warranty, and it doesn’t provide any guarantees.
